  Billy the Kid

Billy the Kid was born November 23, 1859 as Henry McCarty. He was known to have used the aliases William H. Bonney and Henry Antrim. He was a gunman who took part in the Lincoln County War.

According to legend, he killed 21 men, one for each year of his life.  Historians believed the number was less than 21.

Billy the Kid was became a legend the year after his death (1881) when his killer, Sheriff Pat Garrett, along with co-author M.A. "Ash" Upson, published a sensationalistic biography titled The Authentic Life of Billy, the Kid.

The illustration shown was drawn by artist Joe Gish and features not only Billy the kid but an inset of Sheriff Pat Garrett.
